HISTORY
Kyoya was born the third son to Yoshio Ootori, the patriarch of the wealthy and noble Ootori Family. His family manages a health care zaibatsu that is well-known throughout Japan, and Ootoris throughout the generations have worked hard to maintain their illustrious name and honorable reputation. As the youngest son, it was understood by Kyoya from a very young age that it was highly unlikely that he would ever be made heir apparent. It would not be enough for him to be top of his class, or to outshine his peers as his two older brothers had done. He would also have to outshine his brothers, who were ahead of him in age and family hierarchy.
Primarily the only familial affection Kyoya received was from his sister, whom he felt fussed far too much over him (although, deep down, he really did care for her). Otherwise, primarily he interacted with Tachibana, Aijima, and Hotta--the three men on his family's staff that still act as his drivers and personal body guards. Interactions with his father, mother, and older brothers were limited to the occasional family meal and small talk.
In middle school he was given a task by his father to befriend the illegitimate son and new heir-apparent of the Suoh Family. The entire process did not go as expected for the third Ootori son. Tamaki Suoh subverted his every plan and left him more frustrated than Kyoya could ever remember being. In the end, he snapped... and was faced not with Tamaki's downfall, but with his own inequities. In one bemused response, Tamaki changed Kyoya's entire worldview... and, as a result, they became fast friends.
After befriending Tamaki, Kyoya had a new plan. He would take over his father's business, earning his place as rightful heir apparent. The idea to start a Host Club intrigued him, and while he secretly enjoys his time there he primarily is using the club for his own purposes to prove himself... Not that he has let on to any of the other host members his secret plans.
