HISTORY
Kazuki can't say he had a tragic childhood. He really can't. He had a loving family, just enough friends a person his age would need and little to no stress regarding school, simply because of his parents being understanding enough as to not pressure him regarding his marks. His family wasn't fully wealthy, but it also wasn't poor. They afforded food, basic needs and even more: His parents would've bought him whatever he wanted if it was not fully impossible. His parents seemed to actually care about his well-being and future.
Yes, his mother did sometimes call him annoying (which did have a role in his awkwardness found in adulthood) and yes, his father and him did fight sometimes, but it wasn't too bad. Not bad enough to scar him, that is. His actual awkwardness roots from his lack of socializing when he decided to concentrate on his career. He started going out less often, the bags under his eyes would get more and more obvious because of late studying and, all in all, he'd unknowingly isolate himself from everyone.
How did this even start? It's quite simple actually: In school, he liked most of his classes, but there was one class, one single class, that he completely adored: The English class. His teacher was extremely nice, but would't let himself get fooled by his pupils. He was the perfect balance between theory and practice; Everyone liked him. Especially Kazuki. He even found himself talking to his teacher after class, asking for advice on special projects, doing bonus work - It was just how it worked. The subject in itself irked the soon-to-be teacher. The only problem was that this English teacher of his was pretty old - He soon had to retire. His place was taken by another one - a younger one, one that probably wouldn't leave that easily -, but this guy just didn't seem to care. The now retired teacher had been patient and kind - you could've actually felt his passion for the language in his ways of teaching. This one, however, didn't give a damn. He only wanted to get it over with and get paid for it - He was almost emotionless. Kazuki found himself unable to accept him as an actual teacher - he'd correct his every mistake in his mind. He just felt like there was too much of a difference between those two. After a while, he realized he couldn't even understand the new aspects of the language properly - He needed a tutor. But as nobody suited his tastes, he tried to teach himself stuff. He bought himself new books, did an even amount of exercises a day and gave it his all to be able to keep going. He felt as if the language was going to be ruined by this new teacher if else.
It was probably an unconscious decision, but it didn't take Kazuki long to realize how much he wanted to become an English teacher himself. He wanted to do exactly what his previous teacher had done - Balance theory and practice properly. So here happens the sudden, rigid learning. After he graduates, he decides to head straight for the designed college. After getting his degree, he goes for the first job as an English teacher he finds,
His parents didn't really have any protests regarding his career choice, especially since his father was a lawyer. And, believe it or not, most lawyers do have an inner desire to be school teachers. There is something alluring about working with the younger generation; to see learning take place before your eyes, to watch them mature and grow into responsible adults; which, by the way, is much more fun than cleaning up messes other people made, and hoping to get paid for it.
And here we are now, with him working as an English teacher at Ouran Academy, living in a nice flat by himself - well, not really by himself. He's bought himself a munchkin cat - a white one with some orange spots on and such cute green eyes -, since the concept of the cat remaining the same small ball of fluff really delights him. He's gotten himself a huge library in his flat, in which he spends most of his free time: Reading a book or correcting papers, "Abby" snuggled up cozily in his lap while he smokes a cigarette (which is, along with his swearing habit, something he is quite ashamed of). He can say he is quite contented with his actual situation.
