HISTORY
When her mother is only seventeen, she goes into labor on New Years Eve. Though the unplanned pregnancy ends her career as a ballerina, it secures her a comfortable future as the wife of a diplomat's son. Growing up Tsubaki calls this man father, but their relation was something more complicated than that. Though legally he was her dad, biologically they were something more like akin to brother and sister. Her real father was the man she called grandpa, more than double her mother's age.
Tsubaki attends his funeral when she's seven years old.
When Tsubaki turned three, her mother leaves her. She doesn't remember much of what happens, but imagines that there would have been hot tears rolling down her cheeks as her mother walks away. Today, she can't remember the face of the woman that raised her. They haven't been in contact since her mother left. Her father, the man that's closer to a brother by blood, never speaks about this, and Tsubaki never asks.
Tsubaki grows up in silence, not to say that she minds.
When her father decides to remarry, she is fifteen. At first she feels her blood boil, but eventually reasoning simmers her down. When she meets the woman he chooses, Tsubaki notices that she smells faintly of vanilla and thyme. Though she can't object to the marriage, she still rebels in her own little ways. Halfway through the second semester she gets kicked out of St. Lobelia for starting a fight.
Tsubaki can't help but think that human minds are frightfully small.
The summer before her second year, Tsubaki decides to move out for her father's. She hopes his second marriage will go better than the first and enjoys the independence of living on her own. Her father still supports her through weekly phone calls and monthly deposits into her private account but never visits her directly. Though she was against it, he pulls strings to get her into Ouran without raising any red flags.
Tsubaki starts to loathe the canary yellow uniform after just one week.
