Between the twins, Hikaru is definitely the more immature one. Unlike Kaoru, Hikaru has a very hard time dealing with his emotions and talking about them. When being confronted about said feelings, he can get easily irritated. As he just doesn't know how to treat other people, always being together with Kaoru, Hikaru is easily overprotective and gets jealous. Though his overprotectiveness is also the way of showing his affliction to others, he can be a kind-hearted boy if he overcomes his stubbornness at some point. Beside of being a mischievous jerk sometimes -though getting better the more time he is spending in the host club-, he is probably also way more dependant on Kaoru than reversed. When being with his twin, he is very chatty and humorous, though also somewhat rude. When separated from his twin, he is probably one of the most insecure characters within the host club. He needs time to adjust to new situations and it also takes a lot of time for him to get closer to people, but once he does drop the walls.. He can be nice enough.

Born into a filthy rich family, with his mother working as a famous fashionist and his father running a computer software company, Hikaru grew up mainly alone with his twin brother Kaoru. Both of their parents work a lot and are rarely home, leaving the two twins alone at home with their maidens and butlers and what not. His life is not bad at all, even though he grew up hating everyone, enduring the 'mockery' of family members when he was still young. They even dared to put him and Kaoru into dresses once, but even with two totally different looks, people still could not tell who was who. Because of this, he and Kaoru hated the world and isolated themselves from it.

There was only one other person besides eachother that both Hikaru and Kaoru adored, and that was their personal maid when they were still kids. Hikaru adored the way she treated him and his twin brother, yet in that one night, he was awfully disappointed and shocked. He was out with Kaoru on a normal night venturing when he caught said maid trying to crack the safe. He and Kaoru offered her to give her that code if she would play with them the 'Which one is Hikaru?'-game. She agreed to at first and the twins went to bed at ease. But not much later, Hikaru woke up by the sound of an alarm, the maid stole the combination and ran off, telling the twins that there might be no one who could ever tell them apart.

That statement frightened Hikaru, but also bounded him closer to his twin. Over the years, they played around with the hearts of girls confessing to them, until Tamaki Suoh came along and pleaded them to join his future club, which was going to be the Host Club. Hikaru told him with his twin that if he could tell which one is which, they would join.

Sadly for Tamaki, Hikaru grew bored of the game, as well as Kaoru. They quit the game, though something Hikaru slightly started to regret later. In the end, even though Tamaki could not tell them apart, they both willingly joined the club, or at least give it a chance. It was first to just pass some time.. But Hikaru grew quite attached to the host club and each member as they accepted him and Kaoru for what they are, two seperate individuals.
