HISTORY
Being a teacher really wasn't Dimitri's first choice of careers. Rather, it was something that was thrust upon him, a sort of last-ditch effort to do something productive and "worth while" with his life and his plethora of knowledge...But to understand why, one must start at the beginning.
Born the first heir to a wealthy family, Dimitri held the proverbial silver spoon in his mouth. He wanted for nothing and beyond that, seemed to be destined for further fame and fortune. From an early age he excelled in the musical arts, his first love being the piano, showing a natural talent for the instrument and compositions for it. His parents, upon seeing this, made it the focus of his childhood, and so his early years passed in a blur of recitals and praise.
By the time he was a teenager, graduating high school and about to embark into the world, there was no question as to what he would do. He enrolled in college with a dual major in musical arts and music theory. Just another step for him to further solidify his fame -- there were rumors by the time he earned his degree that he'd be well on his way to world renown as a pianist.
Unfortunately for Dimitri, he only made it half-way there. He is unable to recall exactly what happened, only the chaos of losing control of his car and then blackness. Later he awoke in the hospital, feeling only pain and confusion. The way the car contorted around him left his body damaged in a way the doctors could only partially heal -- a crushed disc in his spine and shattered hands left him with severe nerve damage and occasional muscle spasms that made doing day to day tasks difficult, never mind playing the piano.
He only barely made it through physical therapy thanks to the support of his sister, something that greatly surprised him given the fact that he had ignored his younger sibling in favor of pursuing his passion and career. She was several years younger than him, and the way their parents' scheduled their lives with recitals and hobbies kept them separate. But over Dimitri's healing process they bonded, even as Dimitri slipped into a greater and greater depression due to the loss of his dream. He withdrew from everyone but her, and it was only his sister's influence that finally convinced him to finish schooling and to do something with his life, instead of mope around and mourn what could have been.
And that was how Dimitri found himself teaching high school kids the finer points of music and their chosen instruments.
